Perfect Puzzle Pieces

Don't you just love it when 2 activities being done for separate reasons fall together like perfect puzzle pieces?

I realized as I passed out papers that some students did not understand the Boehm Concepts that we use to sped time on in kindergarten past.  So I decided to play a game for a few minutes before the fire drill.  We practiced front, behind, over, under, around etc.  Check out the cool video!

And how did it fall together so perfectly, you ask?
We read the book Over and Under the Snow by Kate Messner.
This is great book that tells about the "secret kingdom under the snow."
It has now morphed into study of animals and their winter activities especially bumblebees!  Can't wait to learn all about the animals with the students!

Rhyming Extra

Playing games makes kindergarten fun!  We played "Rhyming Memory" with a twist!  After finding a match (cat, hat) the student had to add extra rhyming words to the list (cat, hat, sat, mat, rat etc.).
The student could then take another turn!
This great "Memory Gamer" beat me 2 out of 3 games!  He has an awesome memory!
The cards are used from a game called Odd Egg Out Game! Common Core Rhyme Activities.
I added the extra step at the end because all of my students know if words rhyme but have difficulty producing rhyming words!  Playing the game makes it fun!

5th Grade Friends!

Yes, we have students that give up their recess time to come and help students practice skills!  These great friends play "Go Fish" or "Memory" using the letters we have been studying to practice!

Each students must use the letter sound to help with phonemic awareness!  Playing a game helps make the learning fun!
They are so excited to get a match!!!
