End of Year but NOT end of Learning!

The end of the year is fast approaching, but we are still learning! Best way to keep behaviors from spiraling out of control! Keep them busy!!!

What are we doing to stay engaged?

We have started a study of insects. We are learning that they have 3 body parts and 6 legs! Great as we watch caterpillars turn into butterflies!
We pulled pattern blocks from a bag and graphed to see which was pulled the most and least!
Make it even more fun by adding a blindfold! We had to use our senses to describe the sides and angles.

We use dice to practice writing numbers 1-6 or use a math template to make sure the they go in the right direction! We still mess this up in K!
We continue to work on "spilling beans" to find parts of a total! This type of numeration work helps develop fact fluency!
Re-read stories that we know! It helps us practice fluency! Plus we are so proud that we can stretch words, reread and figure out words from the sentence/picture! Using all these strategies can be so difficult for beginning readers!
Focusing on the sneaky, silent e makes reading more difficult books fun! We sort fun ice cream cones. This type of word work really focuses learners on looking through entire words!
Stretching and blending beautiful flowers keeps the learning fun! When we write the words we work on letter formation! Telling a sentence makes it more difficult, especially with nonsense words! You should hear those sentences!

I really think the students love this time of year because they are so successful and they do all of the work now instead of listening to me talk!

What do you do to keep learners engaged at the end of the year?

Addition Math Fun

Practicing math skills can be so fun if taught using games! It is so much more fun than doing worksheets!
We had so much fun doing the Double Double rhyme when we rolled 2 dice! I think they heard us across the building! Check it out!
1st-Roll 2 dice!
I made paper dice that had no 6. Our standard focuses on adding and subtracting to 10 so this made it easier. I do use a 6 if I have advanced students.
2nd-Student must tell each part then the total.
This is a great time to observe the students that need to count the dots! I am so excited when a few start to count from another number instead of all the dots.
Student-" 2 and 5....5, 6, 7. The total is 7."
Yes, I still have students that have to count each dot when rolled so more number and counting practice is needed!
DOUBLE-If a double is rolled, we do the rhyme from above and you should hear the cheers!
3rd-Record roll on recording sheet (Free Recording Sheet)
This is such a fun game to work with addition facts, numeration, numbers, and number sense all in one stop! So fun!

Math Centers

We have been working so hard at math centers the past few weeks! The students have told me that this was their favorite thing to do! I think it is because they do all the work! I just help!
I am amazed at how they have grown in one to one counting, number formation, and the flipping/moving of shapes! We LOVE MATH!

Things Teachers LOVE

I teamed up with a bunch of great teachers to give away some great things I love!  Check them out and enter the rafflecopter!

I love these smelly markers and so do the kiddos!  I am always amazed that they seem to pay better attention when I pick them up to make anchor charts!
I always seem to use purple, pink, and lime green for any notes and smiley faces on papers!
I do not own one of these, but it is on my wish list!  Wouldn't it be wonderful to get it free from this give away!?!?
These make it so easy for centers!  Saves so much time instead of laminating, cutting, etc!
I never have enough of these!  I'm always so amazed at how many we go through in a year!
I love to use these for crafts and for centers!  Cool colors!
I love these pencils!  Always run out at the end of the year!  Never enough pencils!
LOVE TpT gift cards!  I actually won a $25.00 gift card in one of these raffles, and boy was it fun to shop!
